Grading

Bristol University Combat Karate Club uses the usual kyu/dan ranking system. Gradings usually take place at 3 month intervals, with the first for most new students being in December at the end of the Autumn term. Ungraded students wear a white belt before taking their first examination. There are nine kyu grades, starting at 9th kyu and working up to 1st kyu (Shodan Ho) probationary black belt. This probationary black belt is worn for at least 1 year at which time the student can attempt to grade for 1st Dan Black Belt. This grading takes place at the annual summer school.
